This month's topic:
“I made my own dirt!”
.
********************************************
Yea, it's raining! I opened my patio door so
I could sniff the rain and feel its coolness on my face. I heard myself
sigh and I felt all of Mother Earth with her face turned up soaking in
the thirst-quenching rain. It has been very dry in Ohio and so this
morning's rain is most welcome. I hold the intention that wherever you
are, your thirst is quenched!
On to the dirt! Every May the discussion, inside of myself, begins
on the merits of using potting mix or topsoil in my pots. I can argue
both sides very admirably but neither really works for me. As I stood in
front of the giant pallets of both this year, I made a new decision. " I
am making my own dirt," I declared. And so I did. I purchased peat moss
and topsoil, took a bucket, and made my own mixture for each and every
pot. I was so happy as I planted each precious vine and flower. I had
done it my way!
Fast-forward four weeks and my pots each look amazing! I especially
notice it in the strawberry pot. In case you don't know what a
strawberry pot is, it is a clay pot with several openings. I plant a
variety of flowers and
vines in the pot
and relish how it grows into its own cascading picture. I have attached,
with this newsletter, a picture of my strawberry pot taken today. When I
planted it four weeks ago, the sweet potato vine had three leaves on it,
the alyssum was about one and a half inches in diameter, and the red
salvia had no blooms.
On my walk Wednesday morning, I was thinking about how all of my
potted flowers looked so beautiful and I remembered I made my own dirt.
I got really excited as my Feng Shui brain file kicked in and asked,
"Yes Terri, and what is the connection?" I made my own dirt --- I used
the knowledge and experience I had and made the mixture I felt would
support the plants I was planting. I didn't just follow the bag or
nursery's or someone else's directions. Please understand that I am not
saying I am the Dirt Prophet and know all things about dirt. Or, that
the bag or nursery is wrong with their directions. I am excited because
I followed my own inner guidance to mix my own dirt. Holy cow, I
followed my own heart! With this realization, I looked up and saw a
Great Blue Heron circling above me. I smiled and waved. I have been
seeing Great Blue Herons every day for several weeks. As I saw this one
and thought about the timing, I decided I would look the heron up in Ted
Andrew's book, Animal Speak when I got home. In this book, Mr. Andrew
describes the animal/bird/insect and its possible meaning in your life.
Can you guess what it said about the heron? "It reflects a need for
those with this totem to follow their own innate wisdom and path of
self-determination." It was very clear confirmation to me that I am
following my own innate wisdom and to keep it up! The pots are now
beautiful and powerful physical affirmations and enhancements for me to
keep following my heart!
As Feng Shui always says, "It all counts." Now you know that even
includes dirt!
Here's to following your own heart and innate wisdom!
Terri

"The Little Things"
A dear friend sent a link to this beautiful
happening. So often, we get caught up thinking we only make an impact by
doing something huge when in truth.... it's the little things.
Enjoy!
