This month's topic:
Clearing Congestion
.
********************************************
I had a scare earlier this month. My
older brother called and said he had a stress test, failed it, and
having a heart catherization in two days. It is amazing how quickly a
to-do list changes. In about three seconds, I evaluated my list and
tossed it over my shoulder. I had 5 ˝ hours to think on the drive to my
brother’s. I flipped through my life and I wondered about his life.
Thankfully, things went well and I was
able to bring him home from the hospital after only one day. I was very
anxious to see his apartment. My brother is single and very private. I
knew seeing his apartment would tell me most of what I needed to know.
My brother is a great guy. He would do
anything for you. He works for United Way and is very involved in his
job, community, and church helping others. It all showed up in his
apartment.
I have the greatest respect for people
and their possessions. They are intimately connected. Additionally, how
we take care of our homes is a direct reflection of how we take care of
ourselves. I asked my brother if he was interested in talking about Feng
Shui. Thankfully, he said yes!
As I looked at his apartment from an
energetic standpoint, I saw neglect. I saw piles of his things put aside
giving precedence to other people’s projects and the storage of their
items. The health area of his apartment was completely stuffed and piled
high reflecting the same congestion in his heart. I saw his privateness
show up because, except for pictures of his niece and nephews, there was
nothing personal in the apartment. As I explained all that I saw, I
watched the truth of it wash over his face. There is no hiding in Feng
Shui and he could see his own congestion and self-neglect.
He was confronted with, to him, an
insurmountable amount of “stuff.” Because I was willing to sit down with
him and each box, file, and stack, he could get through it. About
halfway through, he confessed to being a closet perfectionist. I could
see that. Perfectionists, when overwhelmed, freeze. If they can’t have
it perfect, they tend to do nothing. We went through everything and
determined what stayed and what needed to go.
If you have too much stuff or are
overwhelmed at the prospect of going through your congestion, use this
Possession Check List. I give it to my clients to help them determine
whether to keep something or let it go.
Do I love it?
Do I need it?
Do I use it?
Does it reflect who I am in my life now?
Is it a positive environmental affirmation
for me?
Does it have positive or negative memories
or emotions attached to it?
Does it need to be fixed or repaired, am I
willing to do so now?
If I moved tomorrow, would I want to take it
with me?
If it is time to let it go, am I going to
sell it or give it away and when?
Remember
energy cannot flow through clutter and disorganization! Don’t let
anything in your environment “steal” energy from you!
You don’t
have to get rid of everything. I still have the cowgirl outfit I had
when I was five years old. And, I can tell you exactly where it is. If
you are overwhelmed ask for help. Ask a trusted friend or hire someone
to help you. It is also important to have a plan for disposing of the
items. You are not really getting rid of it if you just haul it to the
garage!
We are coming to the end of a year and
the beginning of a new one. It is a beautiful time to be thankful for
what has been and look forward to what is coming. It is an opportunity
to check in to see if we are living the life we want and if there are
any changes we would like to make. Check, do you have congestion in your
life? In your body? Look around. You will see yourself on display. Do
you give precedence to everyone before yourself? Are you neglecting
yourself or anyone else in your life? Is your life (your home) filled
with things from your past or things you no longer care about? Is there
room for expansion or anything new to come into your life?
As I reflect on my year, I am so very
grateful for the incredible people who are a part of my life. Thank you
for walking with me as together we are uplifted and empowered by sharing
and caring! I wish each of you the very best and greatest of new years!
2006 --- The year of living the extraordinary!
With respect and gratitude,
Terri
