This month's topic:
“How Long is Long Enough?"
.
********************************************
I am
contemplating the length of life this morning. A dear friend's brother
passed away suddenly. He was young. There must be some number in my head
that is a mark for how long "I think" we must live to have lived long
enough. Whenever someone younger than this number passes on, I sit and
wonder. It reminds me we don't always get to know the why of things. I
guess we don't have the vision it takes to see or we really are just not
supposed to know. Either way, it gives me pause.
I am okay with not knowing why and I don't
usually stay in the wondering too long. I am, however, always moved to
check in with my own life. If I were to pass tomorrow, would I feel
complete and good about my life and the way I have lived it? Do the
people I love know how I love them? Does it really matter if I don't
make my bed today and do I express gratitude for having a bed to sleep
in?
Whoosh. It brings us to stand right in this
moment. All the things we "thought" were important fall away and what is
left is love. A sister's love, a child's love, a parent's love, a
friend's love, a spouse's love, even our own heart's love. The long
to-do list looks a little bit silly as we question why some of the
things seemed so important just a minute ago.
As I am writing, a thunderstorm has begun. We
have been without rain for a few weeks. I feel the flowers, trees, and
grass all stretching to receive the nourishing water. The birds and
children will soon have puddles to splash in. As the rain nourishes the
Earth, there is a cleansing taking place. The dust is washed away and
the connection of all things is revealed. When everything is washed and
stripped away, only love remains. It is the one constant in life.
I have a heart post-it on my computer that says,
"The meaning of life: to love and be loved." In the cycle of life,
whether I am a tree giving shelter, a blade of grass providing cushion
to a bare foot, or a human loving another human, the connection in all
of these is love. Pure and simple. If the meaning of life is to love and
be loved, then however long a life is - is long enough because no matter
what the form, love is what remains through all cycles.
I love you J and even though I never met your
brother, his life has had an impact on mine and I thank him for the
remembering of love.
Peace & Love,
Terri

"The Little Things"
A dear friend sent a link to this beautiful
happening. So often, we get caught up thinking we only make an impact by
doing something huge when in truth.... it's the little things.
Enjoy!
